Preschool is led by Mrs. Shawn Fernandez. Shawn has taught preschool (with a little bit of 1st grade) for 18 years between Ridgewood Baptist Academy and now Community Christian School.  Shawn earned her Associates degree in Early Childhood from Joliet Community College. Her life verse is Phil. 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Class: Kindergarten

Kindergarten is taught by Mrs. Carla McCabe. Carla has taught Kindergarten and Preschool for 11 years. For 10 years she taught Pre K and Kindergarten at Christ’s Academy.  She has also taught at First School in Manhattan. Now she is thrilled to be teaching Kindergarten at Community Christian School.  Carla has logged over 120 hours in earning her CDA Credentials (Child Development Associate National Credentialing Program).    At CCS, she teaches the morning Kindergarten and the afternoon Activity School.  Her favorite verse is Psalm 28:7, “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.  My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.’

Class: 1st and 2nd Grade

Our 1st / 2nd Grade is taught by Ms. Jessica Kamp. Jessica has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Special Education from Trinity Christian College with endorsements in Language Arts and Social Science.  Jessica’s favorite verse is Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” NIV

Class: 3rd and 4th Grade
Teacher: Colleen Chappell

Mrs. Colleen Chappell started her career with 20 years as a substitute teacher and has now added 18 additional years of full time teaching experience.  At  CCS, Mrs. Chappell  brings her long record of experience and excellence to the 3rd / 4th grade.   She is a proud graduate of Bob Jones University.  Her life verse is Psalms 32:8.  “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go.  I will guide thee with mine eye.”

Class: 5th and 6th Grade
Teacher: Anne Shanahan

The 5th / 6th grade class is taught by Ms. Anne Shanahan. Anne is now finishing  her second full year of teaching.  She is a graduate of Cental Christian College in Moberly, Missouri.  She is also very involved in the athletics at CCS, coaching both the girls volleyball and basketball . Ms. Shanahan is a favorite among the kids and we know many of you are excited to have her here.  Her life verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Class: Administrator, History, and Bible
Teacher: Pat Quinn

The high school is led by Mr. Pat Quinn. Pat has 36 years of teaching experience in a Christian school. Mr. Quinn has been supporting CCS since its beginnings and we are thrilled to have him on staff. Mr. Quinn acting as Administrator, AD and is also teaching History and Bible this school year. Pat’s favorite verse is I Chronicles 28:9 “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.” NIV.  Mr. Quinn is a graduate of Lemont High School and a Member of the Lemont High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  He also has a  BA in History and English from NW Missouri State and Elmhurst College and a  Masters in Political Science from Governors State University.

Class: English and Speech
Teacher: Michelle Johnson

The Jr. High and High School English and Speech Classes are being taught by Mrs. Michelle Johnson. Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts in English / Secondary Education from Governors State University in December 2009. Mrs. Johnson has 4 years of teaching experience.  Her favorite Bible verse is II Corinthians 4:18, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal

Class: Math
Teacher: Mark Zylstra

The Math Classes are being taught at CCS by Mr. Mark Zylstra. Mark is a recent graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a degree in Math Education.  He attended high school at Timothy Christian in Elmhurst.

Class: Science
Teacher: Jill Zajicek

The Science Classes are being taught by Ms. Jill Zajicek. Jill  completed her BS in Biology from Saint Xavier University.  She also holds a Masters of Education from Depaul.  Jill is doing great job teaching the Science classes at CCS this year.  Ms Zajicek has two verses listed as her favorite.  The first is Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding.”  The second is Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The music classes and programs are being led by Mrs. Linda Black. Linda and her family are very involved in the music program at Ashburn Baptist Church in Orland Park and they have brought their talents to CCS.

Class: Yearkbook, Art and PE

Mrs. Amy Doty is in charge of the yearbook class, elementary art classes and some P.E. classes. She also is the coordinator of the Worship Team. She also the unofficial school nurse and mom to 6% of the student body!   Amy has been a foster parent, direct of a Christian home school co-op, and is currently a nurse manager at Pregnancy Resource Center of Will county and a registered nurse at Timberline Knolls Rehab Residential Center.  Her life verse is Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. “

Pastor Dennis Greene teaches Jr. High Bible at CCS.   He is degreed from Moody Bible Institute and Trinity College.  Pastor Greene has been in the ministry as an Associate Pastor / Pastor since 1978.  His favorite verse is I Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

The office is run by our Administrative Assistant Mrs. Amy Mitchell. Amy has a business degree from Cornerstone University. She has been performing this job for 8 years. Amy is very efficient and helps keep the school running smoothly.

Position: Library
Name: Kim Sobierajski

Mrs. Kim Sobierajski  has been working in various responsibilities in a Christian school for 10 years.  This year she is in charge of the library,  and assists with elementary reading, spelling, and p.e.  Mrs. Sobierasjki attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO.  Her favorite verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Mrs. Suzanne Scott is in charge of the cleaning at CCS. We are very appreciative of all that she does.
